Integrity Georgia

No good thing will God withhold from those who walk with integrity. Psalm 84:11

Dear LGBT Episcopalians and Straight Friends,

Welcome to the Episcopal Diocese of Georgia. While Integrity USA was first established in 1974, Integrity Georgia has only been in our diocese since 2001. Integrity GA is actively engaged in opening lines of communication and building trust between churches, parishes, diocesan staff and LGBT communities. We understand that everyone in the Georgia Diocese would like to believe that their church truly welcomes everyone, but it is really a matter of degree in most cases today.

Our presence and activity in the GA diocese has led to many concrete changes acknowledging the LGBT community as a meaningful part of who we are as Episcopalians. Church rectors are realizing that it isn’t enough to simply say they are “welcoming.” They are showing it by affirming on their websites that the LGBT community is welcome and encouraging us to participate fully in the life of the church in any way the spirit moves us. Thankfully, we seem to have the support and leadership of the diocese and our new Bishop, Scott Benhase. This can be seen on our diocesan website under the heading, “What is an Episcopal Church?” The answer, of course, is, “We are diverse. Episcopalians are black, white, Asian, Latino, Native American, Caribbean, and more. We are young and old, poor and rich, straight and gay.”

Integrity Georgia expects and wants to hear of positive examples throughout the diocese of LGBTs serving on committees, serving as Lay Ministers, serving on vestries, and leading Christian Education. We need to know if your church is willing to host one of our periodic Integrity meetings. Of course, if you have asked to serve and been turned down, we want to know that as well. Please use the form on our Contacts Page to tell us whatever you feel is important about your experiences in our diocese. Integrity GA tries to be available at local Pride Events with a booth to let our community know they are welcome.

We encourage you to find a church home and do so openly. You do not have to engage in politics and debate to change hearts and minds. Be there, be engaged in the life of the church, show your interests and goals are the same as everyone else’s, show you can be counted on, and never lie about who you are. God loves you as you are, and so do we. Lean on Integrity when you need us and support Integrity any way you can.

Therefore, this list is a living document, beginning in August, 2010. May it grow and bear the fruit of the spirit for the Diocese of Georgia.

To have your church added to this list, send an email to Please indicate whether or not your church is registered with Integrity USA as a Proud Parish Partner.
